Premium Hatchback or Compact Sedan

Hi Faisal & Team-please suggest if Hyun Elite i20 Petrol manual is a good choice compared to the Maruti Dzire petrol. Price wise i20 costing 30K less than Dzire. Have been driving swift petrol for 5 years. Primarily to drive in city traffic and occasion highway drive. Need easy to drive without shifting much gears.

Also is it worth spending more and get a lower variant in diesel i20?

if you want more space then go with compact sedan but if you want features go with i20 and talking about whether to go with petrol or diesel if you drive less than 1500 kms per month then go with petrol otherwise there is no point spending money to get a lower variant in diesel thought the price of diesel is less than petrol but it will mostly affect who drive more than 2000 kms per month

But isn't i20 petrol under powered? Would it give me better comfort and ease to drive in everyday traffic compared to my swift petrol?? Dzire Iam worried about built quality.

Build quality of Hyundai cars is slightly better but if you want the best, opt for a Volkswagen.

OK Faisal pls tell me between Dzire and I20 petrol manual. How much mileage difference would it have. And which is comfortable to drive in everyday traffic. I20 is 30k cheaper than dzire

The Dzire petrol is the better option if compared with i20 as the engine is much better and performence is great, has more space (more boot space as well),handling is much better and steering has more feel and feedback.Talking about mileage, mine returns around 13-14 kmpl in the city and on the highway,it stretches to 18-20 kmpl (depends on your driving). But in terms of overall quality, the i20 is a notch above.

On a side note, why are you not looking at the freestyle petrol?

Hi Nazaar Thank you for the update. Freestyle iam not considering because of the feel of interiors which I don't like personally. Dzire I liked but since iam already driving K-series swift was thinking about i20 but I heard i20 petrol is OK n only diesel is better than dzire

buy i20 diesel... .don't buy that shit(swift) tin can rattleking

That's the old Figo which was made like a tank.

Bro if you are wanting to drive in city with ease go for nexon automatic, it's does the job fantastically and the build quality is supreme, worth for the money spent...but if you are going to drive within 20k kms a year, don't buy diesel as it's initial investment is more and service cost are more too

In my opinion, I20 will be a good option. Although it is a little less on space, but it has an excellent build quality and is feature packed. On the other hand Dzire offers good space but is very lightly build and won't inspire confidence on highways.

Hi Petrol head KK. But i20 petrol isn't that great rite. Fuel efficiency and engine feels under powered too. Only i20 Diesel is excellent.

If i20 , please go for diesel. In Petrol, Dzire is much better in performance , fuel efficiency, handling and space. Build quality shouldn't be a concern if you are driving in the city and high speed stability isn't that bad. We have touched 140 in our Baleno petrol and there were no stability issues. The K12 petrol motor is punchy and overtaking doesn't require any effort. If you are still concerned about build quality, go for Jazz petrol. There are great discounts available and the car is fun to drive. Just that it has some low end lag but it's not underpowered like the i20

Thanks Arjun I guess in petrol I would chose the Dzire manual. Baleno I don't want black interior again so Dzire better. If I get a very good deal on i20 diesel I might think of that as its nice punchy performance..

I accept that the build of the new dzire is very light but that does not mean crash safety is compromised. It feels fairly stable on the highway and fun around corners. And by the way the old figo scored zero stars in ncap test global so heavy sheet metal doesn't makes the more safer!

Peace✌

The reason for less score in safety tests was the lack of airbags.

Jul 9, 2018

Agree the fact that Dzire is a safe car(as per Maruti standards). But what an issue I'm seeing these days is that even a small brush up with something and the car is dented. And if you're using a Maruti regularly in city traffic, you've to be aware that you will be seeing a lot of them when compared to cars from other manufactures. That's where the so called tin can signs show up. Otherwise Dzire is a good car. Hope it gives some help.

petrolheadkk is absolutely right!

I am not denying the fact that the Dzire has very light build quality but crash safety is a different thing.Looking at latest ford cars, the ka+(figo) with 6 airbags scored 3 stars in euro ncap and even the baleno, ignis, swift with 6 airbags scored 3 stars in euro ncap.

Hi Faisal - how much mileage would i20 petrol give in city traffic? Have heard lot of criticism tat i20 petrol is quite under powered. Would it be quite difficult to drive in everyday city traffic? If not maruti what are other better options
