5 Grossly underpowered cars!

Edited: May 21

Today, In the Indian market we have some cars which are very powerful, some are just powerful and some cars offer adequate power. Now all this fine but there are some seriously underpowered cars which just cannot justify their pricetag!

1. Toyota Corolla Diesel

The top spot off course goes to our very own Corolla. While the 1.8L petrol has good amount of punch, the 1.4L D4D diesel motor is just ridiculously underpowered! First of all, how can Toyota offer a 1364cc motor in a 2 million rupee car?! It makes 87 ps of power and 205 nm of torque which is less than even the Ford Figo TDCi which is cheaper by at least 10 lakh rupees!

2.VW Polo (MPi) petrol

The second spot is occupied by the VW Polo which comes with a 1L naturally aspirated petrol and it makes about 75 ps of power and 95 nm of torque. I think VW were considering the Kwid as the main rival of the Polo while plonking this engine! The Polo Higline MPi costs about 9 lakhs and I am pretty sure, at this price point even an 'average joe' would prefer a powerful motor.

3. VW Ameo petrol

The same story continues even here as the Ameo gets the same 1L naturally aspirated petrol motor but is expensive by 45k rupees compared to the Polo!

4.Maruti S-Cross diesel

The S Cross is currently equipped with the age old 1248cc Multijet diesel motor which is absolutely out of place in a rather capable car. Maruti will equip this car with a new set of 1.5L petrol and diesel engines (which is seen in the Ciaz & the Ertiga) in a few days (or months) but enthusiasts will still miss the 1.6L multijet diesel motor which was perfect for the S-Cross.

5.Tata Tigor (revotorq) diesel

Tigor's 1L diesel motor makes about 70ps of power and 140nm of torque which is just pathetic and it shows as it takes almost 17 seconds to go from 0 to 100! The Tigor truly deserves Nexon's bigger and more potent 1.5L revotorq diesel motor as it's a great machine with the engine being the only fly in the ointment.

@Faisal Khan

Very well written buddy... the content is great. I would suggest you to write on the pros and cons in the same way of this segment replacing the tigor with any other. Or else you can compare in this manner for the D segment vehicles but in that pls stick to the domestic brands and not the luxuary one. overall its awsome buddy.. keep it up😃😃😃

Excellent list but somehow you missed the Maruti hatchbacks which sell the most with the same 75 BHP of power since the past 12 years!

Maruti diesel hatches are underpowered but not grossly underpowered. Marutis are so light nowadays that even 75 hp is enough for them!
